Royal engineers – Construct Barker Crossing Bridge

Royal Engineers have a great experience in construction fields. The Barker crossing temporary bridge was assembled on the River Derwent bank and it is the some replacement process for the Calva Bridge. This is the bridge, the workers worked with the high co-ordination over the weekend and install ramps and lighting to optimize the Mabey bridge compact 200 panel bridge. And it is one of the military structures for the pedestrian use.

All the construction efforts ran to schedule of Royal engineers. The bridge structure has 12 lightweight truss sections that are landed and then the bridge was pushed forwards. The bridge was jacked down onto its bearing and the deck panels put on, it acting as a nose.

The Royal Engineer Senior Major Grant Kerr said, “Everything went to plan. All of the guys are proud of their achievements. The Cumbria councils and Allerdale Borough council have been absolutely brilliant”.

The new structure was designed 300m upstream of the old bridge that connection between the north and south sides of town. The bridge opened functions attended by Minister of State for the Armed Forces bill Rammell, local residents and local childrens at 8.00 AM, on November 20.
