Lisp is one of the programming language used for many software and one of the best example software which uses lisp is the Autocad, commonly used for drafting purposes by engineers and draftsman of various engineering fields including Civil engineering, Mechanical and Electrical engineering.

The abbreviation “LISP” derived from the term “LISt Processing language”. It is the second – oldest language, originally specified in 1958 and being used even today. FORTRAN is the only program which is older than LISP. It was primarily created as a practical mathematical notation for computer programs, based on Alonzo Church’s lambda calculus and it quickly became the favored programming language for artificial intelligence (AI) research.

Concentric circles can be defined as a number of circles one inside another at an uniform offset distance. In another words, the concentric circles are a group of circles which contains more than one circle, with a single center point, the diameter of which varies uniformly between one another.

In case if you want to draw a circle with a diameter of 5m and then to draw another four circles of 4, 3, 2, 1m  dia, with a same center point, you can do it by offsetting the 5m dia circle by four times inside that circle with an offset distance of 1m. But, with the lisp file given below, you can just do it in two simple steps. After uploading the file in to your auto cad application, Enter “cc” in the command prompt, you will be asked for the outer diameter and after that you will be prompted for the number of circles you need. That’s all…

Another one important reason for using this file is you don’t need to calculate the offset distance. The above example is easy to calculate the offset distance, think about to draw 7 circles inside a 6m dia circle, you need a calculator to find the offset distance. Area text for Autocad is a lisp file that can be used for calculating the area of a required object and place the value in text format in a selected point. To use this facility in your auto cad application, just download the file in zip format from the below link and extract it in to a folder. Now you will be getting a lisp file named Area Text.

Now upload this file in to your Autocad application by using appload command. You can use the file now by using the command ATXT. Just type “atxt” in the command prompt and press space bar or enter. After that select the object of which the area you want and click in the place, where the text of that area is to be placed.

Please note that the object must be created with “polyline” command or the object creating commands  like Rectangle, Circle or Polygon and unlike Line.

The user interface of auto cad 2009 has wide changes when comparing its older versions. The ribbon style of tool bars may be good looking. It may enhance the beauty of the appearance of its interface. This tool bar will definitely help the beginners of this software. In the mean while, this tool bar ribbon is not much useful for the experts of this software users.

More over working space of this interface is small due to the tool bar ribbon, when comparing with the older versions. Especially, Autocad needs more working space for its better and comfortable use. Autocad is a drafting software used in various engineering fields such as Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical etc. This software is being updated by the developer every year and comes to use. It has many advantages and in the mean while disadvantages too. One of those disadvantages is the drawing files created with the higher versions of Autocad cannot be supported by the lower versions. To resolve this, we have to save the file as the files of lower versions of cad using the save as option. It will be better if the developer provides some updates for the lower versions to solve this problem.

When talking about the AUTOCAD 2009, the user interface of this software is copied from Office 2007. The appearance of tool bars  and other short keys proves the above sentence. Even though the tool bars can be used easily, it occupies more working space. We have not found any difficulties in using the tool bars of its older versions. According to me, using the tool bars for all the commands will reduce the working speed of the user.

In case of Ms Office, it doesn’t have the command prompt and so that there is a need to concentrate on the tool bars. That tool bars are really much useful there. But in case of Autocad, the tool bars are necessary and as there is the command prompt to access the commands more quickly using the shortcut keys, there is no need to concentrate much in tool bars. Frankly speaking, the tool bars of auto cad occupies more working space. It will really disappoint the user.

I have been used this software from its R14 version to 2009 version. I have really enjoyed the changes of Autocad in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008 versions.
